PORTLAND – Edward J. Bouttenot, 80, left this world to rejoin his beloved Gertrude on Friday, July 7, 2006, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, following a brief illness.
“Bout” was born in Auburn and was lovingly raised with his brother by his mother and grandmother. He attended Auburn schools and joined the U.S. Army-Air Force to serve as a radio operator in France and Germany during World War II.
He married Gertrude M. Bergeron on June 2, 1951. Together they raised their four children, Denis, Marc, Lucie and Elise.
Eddie worked as an electric motor repairman at Stultz Electric in Lewiston for more than 30 years. Because of his deep devotion to his faith, he served the church at St. Louis Parish in Auburn in many capacities, including the men’s Orpheon Choir and various other choirs, Eucharistic Minister, and principal of religious education.
He enjoyed tennis, bowling and playing cards.
He especially enjoyed the company of his 15 grandchildren. He is remembered most for his faith, and charmed many people with his engaging humor. He lived life simply and with grace.
Survivors include two sons, Denis Bouttenot and wife, Yvette Bouttenot, of Lewiston, and Marc and wife, Woon Yin Bouttenot, of Fairfield, Iowa; two daughters, Lucie and husband, Anthony Morabito, of Peaks Island, and Elise Hoy of Auburn; and 15 grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife Gertrude, he was predeceased by a son, Jude, who died at birth; and a brother, Louis.
