WEST PARIS – Daniel A. Gaccetta Sr., 85, of Linnell Street, Rumford, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, July 9, at the Ledgeview Living Center.
He was born in Polia, Italy, on Dec. 8, 1920, a son of Rocco and Rosaria (Sorrenti) Gaccetta, and had attended Rumford schools.
During World War II he served as a private first class for the Signal Service Detachment, U.S. Army.
Dan was employed as a watchman at Boise Cascade Paper Co. in Rumford for more than 41 years until his retirement in 1984.
He was a communicant of St. Athanasius and St. John Church, a member of Boise Cascade Paper Co. 25- and 40-Year Clubs, and a former member of Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion, Fr. Ambrose J. Barry Council 2091, K. of C., and Gorizia Lodge 467 Sons of Italy.
He was married in Rumford on Oct. 9, 1944, to the former Rose Anastasio of Rumford, who survives. Other survivors include a daughter Ann Hamann of Cumberland, R.I.; a son, Daniel A. Gaccetta Jr. and wife, Ruth, of Lynnfield, Mass.; a grandson, Brian Hamann of Cumberland, R.I.; and a brother, Vito Gaccetta and wife, Jeanne, of Rumford.
