NEW YORK – David Wright hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the eighth inning to help the New York Mets beat the Florida Marlins 7-6 Sunday.
The first-place Mets reached the All-Star break with a 53-38 record and led the NL East by 12 games. Xavier Nady also hit a two-run homer for New York.
Joe Borchard went 2-for-3 and scored twice for the Marlins, who scored three runs in the seventh to take a 5-3 lead. Florida is 27-17 since May 22 after starting the season 11-31.
Wright hit his 20th homer to give the Mets the lead against Logan Kensing (1-2).
Pedro Feliciano (2-2) pitched one scoreless inning to get the win, and Billy Wagner allowed Miguel Olivo’s one-out solo homer in the ninth before finishing for his 18th save.
New York’s Tom Glavine, trying to become the major league’s first 12-game winner, had a 3-0 lead after five innings but the Marlins came back.
Braves 8, Reds 3
ATLANTA – Andruw Jones hit a two-run homer, and Atlanta roughed up Cincinnati All-Star Bronson Arroyo.
Jeff Francoeur and Scott Thorman also hit solo homers for the Braves, who have won three straight series. The Braves have won seven of 10 games but are just 13-26 since May 28.
Arroyo (9-6) lasted just 4 1-3 innings, allowing 10 hits, six runs and three walks in his shortest start of the season. Cincinnati has lost seven of eight.
Adam Dunn’s 28th homer, a three-run shot that went 450 feet to deep center, chased Braves reliever Oscar Villarreal with no out in the sixth.
Villarreal (8-1) gave up three runs and four hits in 2 1-3 innings. He earned the win after starter John Thomson left with one out in the third because of shoulder stiffness.
Edgar Renteria, who went 3-for-4, has a 14-game hitting streak for Atlanta.
Padres 10, Nationals 9
WASHINGTON – Mike Piazza hit a ninth-inning, pinch-hit home run to lift San Diego over Washington.
The NL West-leading Padres overcame a 7-1 deficit with four runs in the sixth, one in the eighth and four in the ninth to run their winning streak to five games.
The Padres scored five runs off Nationals closer Chad Cordero. Scott Cassidy (5-4) got the victory despite allowing two runs in the eighth. Scott Linebrink worked the ninth for his first save.
The Padres survived a rough outing by starter Clay Hensley (5-7), who allowed career highs in hits (11) and runs (seven) and was done after five innings.
The Nationals wasted three-run homers from Nick Johnson and Alex Escobar and a two-run shot from Brian Schneider.
Phillies 8, Pirates 3
PHILADELPHIA – Cole Hamels pitched five solid innings to win for the first time in over a month, and Philadelphia took its first series in that span.
Expected to be the next Philly Phenom, Hamels (2-4) hadn’t won since June 6 against Arizona in a victory that clinched a series win against the Diamondbacks. The Phillies had lost eight straight series and won their first home series since May 29-31 against Washington.
Joe Randa drove in two runs for the Pirates, who lost the final two games of the three-game set to drop their eighth straight series.
Bobby Abreu had three hits and reached base for the 34th straight game, and Chris Coste had two RBIs for the Phillies.
Zach Duke (5-8) allowed 10 hits and seven runs, five earned, in 5 1-3 innings. He hasn’t won since June 14.
Cubs 11, Brewers 4
MILWAUKEE – Glendon Rusch filled in for Mark Prior with five solid innings and Chicago beat Milwaukee for its third straight win.
Prior was scratched before the game with a strained muscle in his left side, sustained while he was taking batting practice Saturday.
Rusch (3-7) allowed two runs and four hits in his first start since June 16. Dusty Baker used six relievers over the final four innings.
Aramis Ramirez hit his 16th homer and went 3-for-4, Jacque Jones finished with three hits and scored two runs, and Matt Murton had two RBIs for Chicago.
Four of the six walks issued by Brewers starter Doug Davis (5-6) scored. The left-hander pitched 5 1-3 innings, giving up seven runs and seven hits with four strikeouts.
Diamondbacks 8, Rockies 5
DENVER – Orlando Hudson and Luis Gonzalez homered, and Arizona scored five runs in the seventh inning to complete a three-game sweep of Colorado.
Craig Counsell went 3-for-4 and Chad Tracy had three hits and two RBIs for the Diamondbacks, who finished with 13 hits. Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Colorado pushed across two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead before Arizona responded in the seventh.
Edgar Gonzalez (1-2) worked one inning to get the win and Jorge Julio pitched the ninth for his 10th save in 11 chances.
Scott Dohmann (1-1), one of five Rockies pitchers in the seventh inning, took the loss.
Dodgers 3, Giants 1
LOS ANGELES – Aaron Sele pitched six strong innings, Nomar Garciaparra extended his hitting streak to 21 games, and Los Angeles defeated All-Star Jason Schmidt and San Francisco.
Sele (6-2) allowed four hits and one run, and struck out a season-high seven before being relieved by Brad Penny. Sele is 6-0 with a 1.65 ERA in seven starts at Dodger Stadium this season.
Penny, an NL All-Star who hadn’t pitched since Wednesday, retired only one batter in the second relief appearance of his career.
Takashi Saito, the fifth Dodgers pitcher, worked the ninth for his eighth save.
Schmidt (6-5) allowed seven hits and three runs in six innings. He hasn’t won since June 6, going 0-3 with three no-decisions.
Barry Bonds returned to the Giants’ lineup after taking Saturday off because of a sore right knee and went 1-for-4.
