LEWISTON – Reinhold A. Baumer, 81, of Lisbon Falls, passed away on Friday, July 7, after a long illness at Marshwood Health Care & Rehabilitation Center, with his loving family by his side.

Reinhold was born on Aug. 19, 1924, in Lisbon Falls, a son of the late Michael and Anna (Steager) Baumer. He was raised in Lisbon Falls and attended school there, graduating from Lisbon High School Class of 1942.

After graduation he joined the U.S. Army and went to serve his country during World War II. After the war, while still in Europe, he met his soul mate, Ernestine Gubier. They were married on Nov. 1, 1947.

After returning from Europe, he went to work for the Millken Mill until his retirement in 1987. He was very dependable and a hard worker.

Reinhold was an incredible athlete in his younger years; he excelled in baseball and football. He was a faithful man, an active communicant of Holy Family (now Holy Trinity). He enjoyed spending time with his family, doing projects with them and doing little surprises for them. He was a very giving man. Reinhold enjoyed nature, especially being outside, sitting in the woods and hunting. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling together. His greatest joy was puttering around his house and keeping busy. He greatly enjoyed his home.

Reinhold is survived by his loving wife, Ernestine Baumer; his daughter, Joanne Huston and husband, Gary, of Lisbon Falls; his two sons, John Baumer and wife, Pauline, of Lisbon, and Max Baumer of Sunnyvale, Calif.; a granddaughter, Karen Gagne and husband, Peter, of Scarborough; and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Gagne; a sister, Rita Helfin of Bangor; three brothers, Robert, Richard and wife, Joanne, and Herman and wife, Helen Baumer, all of Lisbon Falls; a brother-in-law, Franz Gubier of Austria; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Anna Rovnak.

Special appreciation is extended from Reinhold’s family to the Marshwood Staff, Dr. Letafati and Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Reinhold and his family.
