FARMINGTON – Joseph F. McClughan, M.D., 98, of Rangeley, died early Sunday, July 9, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation Center, where he had resided since March of this year.

He was born June 2, 1908, in Newburgh, N.Y., a son of William and Ella McClughan and received his education in New York schools.

In 1931, he graduated from Colgate University and continued his education at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he graduated in 1935.

A longtime summer resident of Rangeley, he served as summer physician at the Rangeley Lake House in the mid 1930s. He later went on to practice for many years in Newburgh and retired in 1969. Dr. McClughan loved his patients and was loved by his patients and will be remembered as being a real “country doctor.”

He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and enjoyed fishing, golfing and art.

He is survived by his daughters, Joanne Dunlap of Rangeley and Judy Sanders and her husband, Center, of Tilton, N.H.; three grandchildren, Cenanne Sanders of Concord, N.H., Nick Sanders and his wife, Amy, of New Boston, N.H. and Abbi Mountain of Rangeley.

He was predeceased by his wife, Annette; an infant brother, William; and two sisters, Mary McClughan in 1979 and Alice Stegmuller in 1990.
