PORTLAND – The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, will be hosting NASCAR night on Monday, July 24, at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs will take on the Reading Phillies beginning at 7 p.m.

Maine’s own Ricky Craven will deliver the game’s ceremonial first pitch. Craven is returning to compete in this month’s TD Banknorth 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway on July 30. The Newburg native last ran the 250 back in 1992 and won the event in 1991.

Craven has competed in 278 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series events, earning two victories (Martinsville and Darlington) along the way. His VIP Parts, Tires and Service Chevrolet Monte Carlo will be on display at Hadlock Field.

Also on display will be the cars of Craven’s teammate, Johnny Clark, OPS regulars Kevin Kimball and Chris Kennison. Another car on display will be the No. 44 Casella Waste Systems Chevrolet of Sean Caisse, owned by Maine native Andy Santerre. The Caisse/Santerre combination started the 2006 NASCAR Busch East Series season with two straight wins.

Oxford Plains Speedway will be giving away 3,000 free tickets to their August 2 event as fans enter the ballpark.

NASCAR star Schrader returns to Wiscasset

WISCASSET – NASCAR Nextel Cup Series star Ken Schrader is coming to midcoast Maine this Saturday, July 15, for a return engagement at Wiscasset Raceway. With NASCAR making their bi-annual visit to the northeast at New Hampshire International Speedway, the veteran racer from Fenton, Missouri, has agreed to set aside some time in a busy schedule to come back and race at Maine’s fastest track.

The show is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Saturday, with Schrader holding a meet and greet autograph session with fans followed by a full card of weekly racing series action. Schrader will joing the track’s headlining Late Model Sportsman division for heat race action and a 30-lap feature, where he will attempt to defend his win from his 2005 visit.

Along with the regular weekly racing program, Wiscasset Raceway will finish the evening with a 50-lap Big Enduro. Tickets to the Saturday race program are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students and $5 for children 6 to 10. Children 5 and under will be admitted free.

Kuronia wins semi-final bout

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Portland native Lisa Kuronia won her semi-final bout against Tiffany Incrote Tuesday in Hollywood, Florida. Kuroina earned a 5-0 decision with five knockdows during the match.

Kuronia’s will face Christina Swanson of Miami in the final round on Saturday.
