One witnessing the departure of most any train at this time of year, will wonder at the variety and number of “snap shot boxes.” The old time bulky view and box cameras are seldom seen, and by far the greater portion of those now carried are of the pocket, folding variety. This change is brought about by the one reason compactness. The possessor of a modern camera of the kodak type can carry film enough for several hundred exposures besides the apparatus, and the entire combination will not be as bulky by one-half as the old fashioned view camera and its accessories.

Poultrymen prepared 500 feet of outdoor barbecue pits for a Maine Broiler Festival expected to attract 15,000 residents and summer visitors in Belfast. The town, on Penobscot Bay, is the center of Maine’s thriving poultry industry, which has become agriculture’s top income producer in Maine, surpassing even Aroostook potatoes.
Cattle rustlers in Lewiston? Arthur J. Rioux of Chadbourne Road told police an expectant cow has been stolen from his grazing land. Officer Larry Morin went to investigate and found a broken gate and tire marks leading into the pasture. The hijackers had not been apprehended by last night.
25 Years Ago, 1981
A proposed amendment to Lewiston’s new sign ordinance, one which takes into consideration new canopies to be installed in the downtown area, will come before the city’s Planning Board for the first time. When the downtown improvements are completed, about 800 feet of plexiglass canopy will be extended over the fronts of many businesses in the downtown area. The proposed amendments address under-canopy signs and signs hung from the leading edge of the canopy.
