We, the members of Temple Shalom Synagogue and the Lewiston-Auburn Jewish community, are greatly disturbed by the recent event that desecrated the Lewiston mosque. Along with other faith communities in the area, we unequivocally condemn the incident. An attack on anyone’s house of prayer is an attack on all houses of prayer.
As members of a religion that has often been the target of bigotry and offense throughout history, we understand the anger and pain that our Muslim neighbors must be feeling at this time. We assure them that we support their right, as we support the right of everyone, to live and worship in peace and security here in Central Maine and throughout the world.
May all people of the Lewiston-Auburn area, regardless of race, religion or national origin, know peace and well-being as we all continue to live together as a community.
