Please allow me to extend my admiration for the political and religious leaders of Lewiston for taking a swift and firm stand against religious intolerance. I was honored to be in attendance at the solidarity rally in Kennedy Park on July 12, and I want to thank the political leaders of the Lewiston community at the rally. I was pleased to see so many of them in attendance.
Mayor Guay did a superb job in his strong and impassioned statement on the importance of religious tolerance. Just as many were quick to condemn a former mayor for comments that were not appropriate of his post, we should be quick to commend Mayor Guay for his leadership in protecting religious freedom.
The leaders we choose are indicators of our strength and values as a community. It is clear from the example set by Lewiston’s local and legislative political leaders that the city’s people are blessed.
House Majority Leader
Rep. Glenn Cummings,
