RUMFORD – Traffic was diverted away from Exchange and River streets for about an hour Friday morning as a result of Verizon cable lines falling onto River Street.

Officer Paul Casey said the cables apparently became dislodged from the poles on both sides of the street on their own just as a tractor-trailer truck was moving along the street. The truck was disentangled, then allowed to proceed.

Members of the Rumford Fire Department helped divert traffic until Verizon was able to reattach the cables.
