NEW VINEYARD – Shepard and Doreen Swain of New Vineyard were honored recently on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary. The gathering was held at LaFleur’s Restaurant in Jay and was planned by parents of the couple, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Swain of Rangeley, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Oakes of Wilton.

The couple was married on June 27, 1981, at the East Wilton Union Church, by the Rev. Jim McLaughlin.

The toast was presented by Mr. Swain’s twin brother, Shawn Swain, and also attending the gathering was the original flower girl and niece, Heidi Taitt, and maid of honor, Noreen Richard Lyons. A buffet was enjoyed by all.

Tom Dubois, a close friend of the couple, spoke about the respect and love the couple have for one another and their three children. The blessing was given by Pastor Earl Edgerly from Farmington Baptist Church.

Flower corsages were presented to the couple and attendants, which consisted of roses and miniature carnations.

The head table was decorated with a centerpiece of fresh miniature carnations, mums and alstromeria lilies and baby’s breath. Silver candlesticks, a gift from the parents, were also on the table.

The room was decorated with silver and blue bells. The guest tables had yellow mums and favors. The tiered anniversary cake was made by Martha Griswold and was decorated with butter frosting and yellow daisies, along with a white and silver 25th anniversary top.

The couple has three children, Matthew, who graduated from Mt. Blue High School this year and will be attending Liberty University in Virginia in the fall; Ben, who will be a junior at Mt. Blue High School; and Marrissa, who will be in the seventh grade and will be attending Mt. Blue Middle School this fall.

About 80 relatives and friends attended from Jay, Livermore, Wilton, Stratton, Madison, Farmington, Westbrook, Waterville, Greene, Rangeley and New Vineyard.
