Seniors barbecue

AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Hasty Community Center for a chicken barbecue. Members need to bring cups and utensils.

Bingo will be played after lunch. Money is due on July 19 to go to Carousel Music Theatre and Supper Club Show in Boothbay Harbor on Aug. 22.

The club met on July 5 with Caroline Chapman presiding. There were 70 present. The membership chairman introduced a new member, Senja Grover. “Happy Birthday” was sung to those with birthdays in July. Attendance winners were Dodi Juneau and Gracie McDaniel; pot of gold, Buzz Edwards, Madge Gardner and Roger Briggs. Bingo was played.

Taize service

LEWISTON – A Taize service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 16, at Trinity Episcopal Church. It is a contemplative, ecumenical service at the church located at 247 Bates St. For more information, call 782-5700 and ask for the Rev. Larney Otis or Dell Gray.

Seniors trip

AUBURN – The New Auburn Senior Citizens will join the First Auburn Senior Citizens at the annual senior citizen barbecue at the Haste Memorial Armory, Pettengill Park, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16. Doughnuts and coffee will be available in the morning, and at noon, hamburgers and hot dogs will be ready. Cost is $3, and it is for members only.

A regular meeting was held July 5 with President Virginia Levasseur presiding. July birthdays were noted, small gifts given and the birthday song was sung.

Members going to the train ride on Tuesday, July 18, are to be at the Ramada Inn no later that 7:15 a.m.

The pot of gold winners were Pauline St. Pierre, Theresa Turgeon, Dot St. Hilaire and Del Preo.

All members planning to attend the clambake in September must have their dues paid for 2006.

A light lunch was served and bingo played. There will be no bingo in July. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Aug. 2.

Ice cream social

NEW GLOUCESTER – Modern Woodmen, Camp 8794, is sponsoring an Ice Cream Social from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Hodgman’s Frozen Custard. Members, families and friends are invited. Those interested should call 783-8804. Tickets may be picked up at 67 Minot Ave.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on July 10 were: first, Paul Beegel and Les Buzzell; second, Richard Allen and Richard Balian; third, first in B, Eileen Potvin and Della Starbird; fourth, second in B, first in C, Joanne and Bill Soterion; fifth, Roger Briggs and Ron Reynolds; third in B, Janice Wolfe and Pat Morris.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays, a mini-lesson is given, and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 783-1734 for more information.

The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on July 11 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, David Lock and Martine Begert; tied at third, Richard Balian and Richard Allen with Charles Bartlett and Roger Briggs. Flight B winners were: tied at first, Richard Balian and Richard Allen with Charles Bartlett and Roger Briggs. Flight C winners were William and Joanne Soterion.

Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the center.

The club also met on July 12 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners in Flight A were: first, Misha Tomic and Katherine Love; second, Mike and Pat Quinn; third, Mary Leahey and Ann Johnson; fourth, Richard Balian and Richard Allen; fifth, Jim Flanagan and Lucille Theriault.

Flight B winners were: first, Richard Balian and Richard Allen; second, Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons. Another game will be played at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Schooner Estates in Auburn. A partner is guaranteed at both games. For more information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.
