WASHINGTON – Brian Carroll and Ben Olsen scored second-half goals, and D.C. United held on for a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Crew on Saturday night

Christian Gomez also scored for United (13-1-5), who won their sixth straight and pushed their unbeaten streak to 13 matches, the longest in club history.

Kei Kamara and Eric Vasquez scored for the Crew (4-8-6), who lost to D.C. for the second time in two weekends.

After a 1-1 first half, Carroll put United ahead for good on a brilliant 30-yard strike that skimmed off the underside of the crossbar and into the top right corner.

Olsen made it 3-1 in the 64th minute when he reached a loose ball in the penalty area and drove it inside the left post. Vasquez brought Columbus back within one in the 72nd minute, scoring a one-timer from 25 yards off a square pass from Chris Leitch.

Columbus’ Eddie Gaven then had two clear headers to tie it late, but D.C. goalkeeper Troy Perkins blocked the first one and the second went wide of the right post in stoppage time.

Gomez struck first for United in the 16th minute, tapping in a rebound of Olsen’s shot after it caromed off Columbus goalkeeper Noah Palmer. Television replays showed Gomez may have been offsides when Olsen struck his 15-yard effort from the right on a quick United counterattack.

Kamara tied it in first-half stoppage time from close range, after Leonard Bisaku’s shot deflected off D.C. defender Bobby Boswell and into Kamara’s path.

With United’s victory, they close the season series with the Crew at 3-0-1.
