KC barbecue

SABATTUS – The Knights of Columbus will hold a chicken barbecue, open to the public, at noon Sunday, July 30, at Maxwell Gill Hall, corner of Route 126 and High Street. The meal will consist of half chicken, coleslaw, potato salad, dinner roll and drink.

Blood drive

GREENE – The Greene Lions will hold a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the Meadows Senior Living Center, Route 202.

Lake meeting

WINTHROP – The annual meeting of the Annabessacook Lake Improvement Association will be held on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Augusta West Campground. There will be a pancake breakfast at 8:30 a.m. followed by a business meeting at 9:15.

Berry festival

WINTHROP – The annual Raspberry Festival will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 29, at the East Winthrop Baptist Church, Route 202.

There will be waffles, muffins, shortcake, pies, ice cream sundaes, lobster rolls, hot dogs, chips and beverages; also a magic show, live music, pony rides and balloons for the children.

Outing sign-up

SABATTUS – The cut-off date for signing up for the Sabattus Senior Citizens August outing is Thursday, July 20. Those interested should call Bob at 783-6955.

The outing will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at Maxwell Hall. The day of food and games will start with coffee and doughnuts.

Screenings

LISBON – Life Line Screening will be at the Lisbon Town Office, 300 Lisbon St., on Monday, Aug. 7. Appointments will begin at 10 a.m.

Screenings involve the use of ultrasound technology and scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs. Also offered is a bone density screening to assess their risk for osteoporosis.

Each screening requires 10 minutes and the vascular package costs $109. The vascular package and osteoporosis screening is $129.

People wanted

PORTLAND – The Cumberland County Extension Association is looking for people to serve on the Executive Committee.

The association helps support the University of Maine Cooperative Extension educational programs in Cumberland County in areas of 4-H and youth development, agriculture and horticulture, natural resources, family living, food safety and nutrition. One of the major responsibilities is to oversee the county portion of the budget.

The committee typically meets on the third Wednesday evening every month, except on holidays, from 7 to 9 p.m., usually at the Barron Center in Portland. Executive Committee members serve two-year terms beginning in September.
