Bank account set up to help fire victim
FARMINGTON – Area businesspeople are rallying around a well-liked candy shop owner who lost her home in a fire last month.
Mike Blanchet of the Downtown Farmington Business & Professional Association said Thursday he opened an account at Franklin Savings Bank to accept donations for Pam West, the owner of Farmington’s Mountain View Chocolate Shoppe on Route 4.
West lost her New Vineyard home in a fire in late June. Blanchet said she was not insured “the way she should have been.”
“She’s just getting over the loss of her husband, over a year ago. She had just gotten back on her feet” when the fire happened. “She basically lost everything,” he said. “We want her to remain part of the business community.”
Blanchet said West won a statewide businesswoman of the year award last year.
“She stays upbeat, she always has a smile on her face. She’s always quick to offer a free sample. Everybody loves the candymaker,” Blanchet said.
