Rebekah picnic

POLAND – Odd Fellows and Rebekahs from all over the state and their families are invited to a picnic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the Thorpe/Tucker cottage and grounds on the shores of Tripp Lake, 50 Megquier Hill Road. Golf carts are available to transport those who need it to the picnic and beach area. Everyone is to bring their own lunch.

If the day is rainy, the outing will be on Thursday, July 20. For more information, call Esther Tucker at 998-5359.

State meetings

AUGUSTA – The Department of Health and Human Services is planning a series of meetings around the state to discuss plans for implementing managed care for mental health and substance abuse treatment services.

The staff will have two meeting times each day, one from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and a second from 6 to 8 p.m. Those who need directions can find maps at http://www.maine.gov/dhhs/DHSaddresses.htm.

Artwork sought

UNITY – The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association is seeking entries for an artwork contest for the 2007 Common Ground Country Fair. The selected artwork will be featured on the 2007 fair poster, T-shirts, other fair merchandise and promotional literature. The winning artist will receive $1,000.

The association holds a contest each year and, in August, chooses the artwork for the following year’s fair. The contest is open to Maine residents and association members (regardless of residence) only. Artists may submit two entries. All entries must arrive in the office by 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4. The association will retain full rights to the design.

All interested artists should contact the Common Ground Country Fair office for a list of criteria and an application form. The address is PO Box 170, Unity, Maine; phone, 568-4142; e-mail, [email protected]; or www.mofga.org.

The Common Ground Country Fair will take place in Unity on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22, 23 and 24.
