BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) – English Premier League champion Chelsea will see a heavily United team of MLS All-Stars next month.

D.C. United, that is.

Midfielder Freddy Adu and defenders Josh Gros and Bobby Boswell were added to the MLS All-Star roster Monday, giving United seven players on the 18-man team that will face Chelsea on Aug. 5. D.C. forward Alecko Eskandarian was a commissioner’s pick, while goalkeeper Troy Perkins, midfielder Christian Gomez and forward Jaime Moreno were part of the “First XI” players selected last week.

“Chelsea is very competitive. They’ll put out their best 11,” said United coach Peter Nowak, who will coach the MLS All-Stars. “Their coach is all about winning. So am I. It will be an attractive game for all fans.”

Chelsea’s lineup is loaded with big names, including World Cup stars Michael Ballack, Andriy Shevchenko, Joe Cole and Hernan Crespo.

Also added to the MLS team Monday were Colorado midfielder Pablo Mastroeni and Dallas forward Brian Ching, members of the U.S. World Cup team. Colorado goalkeeper Joe Cannon, FC Dallas midfielder Ronnie O’Brien and Chicago forward Nate Jaqua also were chosen.

In addition to Eskandarian, MLS commissioner Don Garber selected FC Dallas’ Richard Mulrooney. Both players have come back strong this season after injuries last year.

Coaches, players, general managers, the media and public voted on the “First XI.” Those players were: Perkins; defenders Jimmy Conrad of Kansas City, Chris Albright of Los Angeles and Eddie Pope of Real Salt Lake; midfielders Gomez; Dwayne De Rosario of Houston, Landon Donovan of Los Angeles, and New England’s Clint Dempsey and Shalrie Joseph; forwards Moreno and Ante Razov of Chivas USA.

Razov, Dempsey and Joseph will miss the All-Star game because Chivas USA and New England are playing Aug. 6 as part of a doubleheader in Los Angeles involving Champions League winner Barcelona.
