MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – Tim Olson’s single with one out in the bottom of the ninth scored David Smith from second base to give the New Hampshire Fisher Cats a 9-8 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs on Monday.

Olson’s heroics made a winner of reliever Danny Hill (2-6) while Kyle Jackson (1-1) was tagged with the loss.

Bobby Thigpen paced New Hampshire (41-54) with two hits and three RBIs, while Chad Spann added two hits, scored three times and knocked in three for Portland (54-40).

The Sea Dogs jumped ahead 2-0 in the first on an RBI ground out from Spann and an RBI single from Luis Jimenez.

Chris Durbin added an RBI single and Tyler Minges pushed home a run on a fielders choice in the third for a 4-0 Portland advantage.

New Hampshire answered by plating seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the third to chase Portland starter David Purcey.

Thigpen launched a two-run double, Chip Cannon and Smith notched RBI singles, Olson added a sacrifice RBI and Manny Mayorson closed out the scoring with a two-run triple.

A two-run double in the fifth from Minges cut the lead to 7-6 and Portland tied it in the sixth on a Spann RBI single.

New Hampshire seemed to have the game in hand when Thigpen singled home Brad Hassey in the bottom of the eighth for an 8-7 lead, but Spann answered with leadoff homer in the top of the ninth to tie it, setting up Olson’s heroics.
