LEWISTON – The Franco American Heritage Center, producers of Lewiston-Auburn’s newest Franco-American celebration, have launched a Web site dedicated to sharing information about Festival FrancoFUN.

The new site, www.festivalfrancofun.com, will continue to be enhanced in the weeks leading up to the Friday through Sunday, Aug. 4 to 6, festivities. A key innovation is the ability to register for volunteer work online, making this the only Franco-American festival in Maine offering on-line registration.

A critical component of previous cultural celebrations in Lewiston-Auburn has been the hundreds of Franco-Americans that have volunteered to provide services to community members and tourists attending the festival.

Those interested in volunteering should visit the Web site to register or can call the Heritage Center at 783-1585 for details.

This year’s Volunteer Committee Co-Chairs Roland Bergeron and Joline Richard see the Web site and online information as a key feature of what Festival FrancoFUN will become.

“Getting the entire community involved is important and using the Internet makes it easier for information to get out,” said Bergeron. Richard added, “We are using a tool very familiar to the next generation of Franco-Americans in this community, and they are key part of making this festival successful for years to come”

In addition to using the site to solicit volunteers, Heritage Center Executive Director Rita Dube sees greater possibilities. “Festival FrancoFUN is the largest celebration of our heritage, and it should bring people from away to our community to celebrate with us. Building a site that provides information to tourists as well is important, and we hope the local business community will work with us in promoting this festival and the region,” Dube said.

Festival FrancoFUN, a cultural celebration of Franco-American heritage, will take place in Lewiston on Aug. 4 to 6.
