JAY – People at the town office have arranged to raise money for a new street clock by having a circus on Saturday, July 22.
Walker Bros. Circus will take place in the former Ames store parking lot on Route 4 under the big top.
Shows will held at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and last 90 minutes. One hour prior to the show, pony and elephant rides will be available, along with a petting zoo and food stands.
The price of the clock, which stands almost 13 feet high, is about $19,000, said Lori Shink, a town office employee. The Howard Replica/Seth Thomas clock will be put in front of the new town office, which is in the planning process.
The staff hopes to raise about $500. They receive 10 percent of the ticket sales from the circus.
The town hosted a carnival at the same location in June, and raised $320 toward the clock, Shink said.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at the town office during regular business hours. For more information, contact the town office at 897-6785, or go online to www.jay-maine.org.
Admission is $12 in advance and $14 at the door. This price includes one adult and two children, said Shink.
