PORTLAND (AP) – A York man accused of providing heroin to a teenage girl who later died was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Monday.
U.S. District Judge George Singal imposed the sentence on Scott Fisher for distribution of heroin resulting in death, and for conspiracies to traffic heroin and cocaine. Fisher pleaded guilty to federal charges last November.
Fisher, 21, was accused of giving a substance containing heroin to the 17-year-old girl in June 2004. The girl died four days later.
John Sweeney, a co-defendant, was sentenced last month to 25 months in prison for his role in the conspiracy, said U.S. Attorney Paula Silsby. The lengthy sentences reflect both the seriousness of trafficking and the stiff penalties that are available under federal sentencing laws, Silsby said.
“Drug dealers should know that when someone dies from using the drugs they sell, they can spend a significant period of time in federal prison,” she said.
