RUMFORD – The New York man police have been searching for since a shooting incident last week was captured in Rumford Monday by the Central Maine Violent Crimes Task Force.

Daniel M. Jackson, 24, was wanted by state and local police on charges of domestic terrorizing with a firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Wilton Police Chief Wayne Gallant said Tuesday that Jackson was apprehended Monday around 4 p.m. in Rumford.

He is being held without bail in the Franklin County Jail on charges of domestic terrorizing class C. Gallant said Jackson is also wanted by police in Albany, N.Y., for violation of probation and felony escape, and faces extradition there.

The shooting that Jackson has been charged with occurred early Wednesday morning, July 12. Police were called after residents of a Wilton apartment complex heard shouting and a gunshot inside a neighboring apartment.

Later that morning, police sent a tactical team into the building to look for Jackson, fearing that he was armed and may have taken a hostage.

Inside the apartment, about 25 officers, including a state police tactical team, found a small-caliber handgun and other evidence of crime, Gallant said.

He added Tuesday that he’s “just glad that he was apprehended.”

“I am extremely grateful for the work the task force does. His alleged shooting of a firearm in a complex with children is bothersome,” Gallant said.
