LEWISTON – Johnson Foundations of Bangor captured the Maine ASA Men’s Slow Pitch Class C state championship over the weekend, sweeping its way through the double-elimination bracket.

After a first-round bye, Johnson defeated Carlton Club of the Lewiston National League, 4-1, and routed Brewhaha of Waterville, 14-7, before a hard-fought 5-4 win over Coastal Auto Parts/NAPA of Ellsworth. From there, it was on to an 8-6 win over Murphy Builders Terminators of St. Croix and a 14-2 trouncing of Hartt Transportation from Auburn Players League.

The champions backed up their earlier win over Hartt with a 7-2 decision in the final. Hartt tripped Terminators, 8-4, in the consolation bracket championship.

The top six teams advance to the ASA Nationals on Labor Day weekend in Montgomery, Ala. Joining Johnson (6-0) will be Hartt (5-2), Terminators (5-2), Turf Club of Waterville (4-2), Bee-Jay’s of Caribou (4-2) and Stolen Identity of Waterville (5-2). Among other local squads, Major Automotive (APL) was 13th; Carlton Club, 17th; Le Nationale (Lewiston National) and Reggies Sales and Service (APL), tied for 25th; and Ducharme Masonry (Lewiston American) and Melanson’s/Webber Avenue (APL), tied for 33rd.

LISBON FALLS – Chris Bickford belted two home runs to lead Chris B. Madison Tanning past Tri-Town Taxi, 7-3. Mike Harris smacked two hits for Tri-Town Craig Adamson went 3-for-4 with a homer and Robert Laviolette was 3-for-3 to push XLR8RZ to a 6-3 win over Shades. Steven Curtis Jr. delivered two hits in a losing cause B&D Bombers belted M&M Getty Mart, 21-2, behind Rob Bernier and Bob Martin’s two home runs each Levi Ervin knocked a 3-run blast and Randy Ridley chalked up two hits in Rooper’s 12-10 conquest of CS Softball.
