BUCKFIELD – Buckfield Rescue will soon own a new, bright red Road Rescue ambulance for a bid of $123,400 by Specialty Vehicles, Inc. from North Attleboro, Mass.

Though it was not the lowest bid, the other two bids did not meet the qualifications set out in 28-page specification by the Rescue Department. The main difference was a stainless-steel versus wood-products interior.

The actual price was $129,000, but because the town already owns three Fords, they got a discount from Ford. Rescue Chief Lisa Buck presented requests for money to be moved out of reserve accounts to buy uniforms, an automatic defibrillator and radios.

The summer paving bid was awarded to Pike Industries for $156,745, minus additional fill. This is for paving on Gessner Road and Paris Hill.

The library addition bid was awarded to Camolli Construction Co. for $21,750.

The contract with the Oxford County Sheriffs Department was signed for 362 hours of coverage at $49.67 per hour for a total not to exceed $18,000. These services include patrolling the town, responding to citizens’ calls for aid, responding to complaints, enforcing state statutes, rendering assistance in emergencies and extra services.

Four people were appointed to the Planning Board with terms to be set by Town Manager Glen Holmes. At the recent town meeting, voters approved staggered terms so all members would not come on the board in the same year. Those appointed are Perley Lovejoy, Tim Brackett, David Savage and Jason Haley.

Tom Holland was appointed to the road committee for a one-year term. Everett Tilton, and D’Ann Savage were reappointed to the recreation committee and Jodi McCafferty was appointed to the recreation committee.

Kay Hawkins was reappointed licensed plumbing inspector. Jeff Taylor was reappointed sealer of weights and measures and Robert Larabee was reappointed animal control officer.

Glen Holmes was reappointed code enforcement officer, road commissioner, tree warden, general assistance director, civil emergency preparedness director and health officer.

Cindy Dunn was reappointed town treasurer, tax collector, excise tax collector, bookkeeper, payroll clerk, register of voters, assessors assistant, motor vehicle registration agent, and watercraft/ATV/snowmobile registration agent.

The Route 117 sidewalk agreement between the state Department of Transportation and the town was accepted. The sidewalk will run from Buckfield Inn to the crossroads at the ball fields. The cost of the project will be $37,543, half of which will be the town’s share.

Holmes told the board that 10 acres adjacent to the transfer station is being sold for $20,000. A building project is scheduled this summer for a universal waste facility and a bathroom as a swap shop. The additional land would give the station more room. Selectmen said they were interested to see if Sumner would be willing to share the cost, which would be $7,000 to Sumner and $13,000 to Buckfield.

A bring-your-own-bottle permit was approved for the recreation department’s annual Labor Day dance.
