EUSTIS – In a quiet special town meeting Tuesday, residents voted to appropriate $30,000 from surplus town funds to purchase 17.73 acres of land along Eustis Ridge.
The lot, owned by Robert and Cassandra Drummond, will connect the school trust lot and Cathedral Pines.
“The land in question will be bought for $25,500, and the rest will be used for surveying and the painting of lines on the new lot,” selectman John Caldwell said. “This lot and the school trust lot are hooked together and this will pull it all together with Cathedral Pines, making one huge public lot.”
Caldwell explained that the school trust lot was laid out in 1893.
“When Maine became a state, every town was laid out with 1,000 acres for ministerial (purposes) and the school,” he said. “Over the years, it all became the school trust land.”
Voters also approved $4,000 to paint the town office and library and $336 for .12 acre of land from the Durrell Farm lot from Timothy and Diane Loring to straighten the road.
