LEWISTON – Funeral services for Lionel “Nel” Potvin were held Wednesday morning at St. Joseph’s Church, following prayers at the Pinette Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Michael Seavey celebrated the Mass and recited committal prayers at the entombment at St. Peter’s Mausoleum.
During Mass, readings were read by son-in-law, Leo Castonguay, grandson, Gil Potvin, and cousin, Natalie Bergeron. Words of remembrance were also expressed by granddaughters, Lauri and Lisa Castonguay.
The funeral procession was led a final time by Lewiston Police Department’s Officer Jeff Parshall into “Little Canada” on to the corner of Cedar and River streets, past the playground, Lionel Potvin Park, named in his honor by the City of Lewiston in tribute of his life’s dedication to his neighborhood.
At the cemetery, the U.S. Air Force Honor Detail played Taps and presented our country’s flag to his wife, Rita, in recognition of Nel’s service to his country during the Korean Conflict.
Pallbearers were Eric and Nicholas Potvin, Gaeten Bergeron, Mario and Marcus Talarico, as well as Leif Castonguay.
At the conclusion of the service, a reception of fellowship was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Potvin in Lewiston.
