LEWISTON – Just Us – a local singing group whose motto is “If it’s not fun, we won’t do it” – will perform Saturday, July 29, at the Franco-American Heritage Center. The 7:30 p.m. concert in Performance Hall will benefit the newly established Festival FrancoFun.
Just Us was the first group to perform at the center at a Christmas fundraiser for the Festival de Joie.
Organized in 1999, Just Us came about when seven members of a popular singing group were asked to perform for the local Elks Emblem Club and were in need of an accompanist. All recognized a common musical interest and desire to perform and to “keep alive the beautiful music of the past,” said Nel Meservier. Today, Just Us comprises about 20 singers, ranging in age from 30 to 80-plus.
For the July 29 concert, the group will sing such popular hits as “Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina,” “Standing On The Corner,” “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and a “Phantom of The Opera” medley.
Tickets, $8, can be purchased at Hannaford supermarkets in Lewiston and Auburn; at Victor News on Park Street, Lewiston; or call the center at 689-2000. Doors will open at 7 p.m. For more information, go online to www.francoamer-icanheritage.org.
