AUGUSTA (AP) – Maine’s unemployment rate rose by 0.2 percentage point in June to 4.6 percent, matching the U.S. rate for the month, the state Labor Department said Thursday.
“There was little change in labor market conditions between May and June,” state Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman said. “The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased slightly while the number of wage and salary jobs in Maine remained nearly level at 613,600.”
June’s 4.6 percent rate was an improvement over the state’s 4.8 percent rate for June 2005. The figures released Thursday are preliminary.
Neighboring New Hampshire’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for June was 3.3 percent. Massachusetts reported a 5 percent unemployment rate last month, unchanged from May.
