AUBURN – A Service of Remembrance was held for Alvin Gilbert, former Auburn City Counselor, on Friday morning from the Memorial Chapel of Dillingham & Son, with the Rev. Dodi Knight presiding.

Kathy Haley played and sang the prelude song “To Sir with Love,” as well as “My Way,” “Unforgettable,” and concluding with “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”

Guitarist, brother-in-law Ralph Lashua, played and sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.” Words of remembrance were shared by daughters, Annslie Bigbee and Vicky Calvard, and son, Tom Bigbee. Also sharing words of remembrance were nephew, William Morrison, and niece, Glendine Allen.

The U.S. Navy Honor Detail from Brunswick Naval Air Station played Taps, and while Honor Detail was folding and presenting our country’s flag to Alvin’s wife, Janie, the song, “America the Beautiful” was played in the background at the funeral home in recognition of Al’s service to his country during World War II.

A funeral procession was formed to Upper Gloucester Cemetery, where committal graveside prayers were read, and was concluded with the singing of “Amazing Grace.” A reception of fellowship was then held at the Danville Grange Hall in Danville.

Arrangements were by Dillingham & Son Memorial Chapel & Tribute Center, Auburn.
