LEWISTON – Gertie (Cote) Corriveau, 83, of Lewiston passed away after a long illness with her loving family by her side on Thursday, July 20, at Russell Park.
She was born in Caribou on July 2, 1923, a daughter of the late Henri and Louise Damboise Cote. She attended Caribou schools, and later moved to Connecticut, where she worked for several years.
She then came to Maine, where she worked at the Bates Mill from 1942 to 1971.
She met and married her soulmate, Marcel J. Corriveau, on June 30, 1947, in Lewiston.
Gertie was a member of the Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul, the Ladies of St. Anne, and the Lewiston Senior Citizens.
She greatly enjoyed visiting her relatives and friends, and also liked knitting and sewing. Gertie loved the outdoors, which brought her the joy of fishing, boating and camping.
She loved French music and played the accordion and the harmonica.
She is survived by two sisters and a brother, Evelyn Duthie of Bangor, Lorraine Cote of Madawaska, and Arthur Cote of Portland, Ore.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Gertie was predeceased by her loving husband, Marcel, on Jan. 25, 2003; her parents; seven sisters and a brother, Yvonne Damboise, Rose Dumais, Alma Holmes, Dora Soucie, Dina Belanger, Irene Dumont, Albertine Carney and Sylvio Cote.
Gertie’s family would to extend heartfelt appreciation to the Russell Park staff and Beacon Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion shown to Gertie and her family.
