SUMNER – Kenneth and Laurie Wilson of Sumner celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on June 11 at Hope Mabel Thurlow Hall in Woodstock. They were married on June 14, 1981.

The surprise started when their daughter, Danielle and son, Kenny, flew home from Collegedale, Tenn., three days before the party. Their three adult children, (Savannah is the youngest) and family generously gave them a party in a Hawaiian theme.

The happy couple sat in beach chairs, sipped punch from coconut bowls and were served fresh fruit and more. The huge cake was shaped as large edible flip flops, made by Mr. Wilson’s aunt, Leanna. Some guests wore Hawaiian shirts and each had a lei around their neck.

The “newlywed” song “We’ve Only Just Begun,” was played and a poem was written and read by Grammie Wilson. A special friend sang a blessing song for them. Many stood up and shared and told some of their good times with and about them. The maid of honor at their wedding, Beth Curtis, and best man, Bill Wisnosky, both spoke of their fond memories also. Many pictures were taken and a scrapbook is now being put together.

Many children who were there had fun by breaking a smiley face piñata and playing games. There was time to visit and reminisce about the past with everyone. A palm tree was used as a money tree and homemade Tiki bar served as the punch stand.

Mr. Wilson has been employed at Poland Spring Bottling Water Co. for ten years and Mrs. Wilson has been employed as a dietary aide for seven years at Ledgeview Living Center.

Guests attended from Massachusetts, Florida, Maine and Tennessee, as well as nearby towns.
