YARMOUTH (AP) – Sen. John McCain, visiting Maine for the second time in two months, campaigned Saturday with Republican gubernatorial nominee Chandler Woodcock at the Yarmouth Clam Festival.
McCain, who headlined a May 21 fundraiser for David Emery, one of Woodcock’s rivals in last month’s primary, said he had no problem shifting allegiance and supporting the party’s nominee.
Pointing to Maine as one of the highest taxed states in the nation, the Arizona Republican told reporters at the DeLorme center that the state needs a Republican administration to solve its economic problems.
McCain, a 2008 presidential prospect, also was campaigning Saturday in Vermont for GOP congressional candidate Martha Rainville.
