As the saying goes, you can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all of the time.

This is in reference to the Sun Journal editorial July 15 about the financial balance sheet of the town of Mexico. You are either engaging in willful misinformation or are completely ignorant of the facts.

For the past several years, including the last two when I was a budget committee member, the selectmen, selectwoman and the town manager have steadily increased spending, some for services that are nonessential or contribute to the betterment of the town’s financial future.

The one and only reason the town coffers are in the black is because LD1 decreased the town’s contribution to the school district by 8 mills.

Property taxes could have dropped much more significantly if town officials and the manager would have adopted the propositions so reasonably argued and thoroughly explained by the budget committee.
