LEWISTON – Theme of the annual Olympic Game Day at Montello School was “If You Had Fun, You Won.” Roland Trottier, Montello School’s gym teacher and coordinator of the event, stressed fun over competition. The games were a culminating event where all grade levels participate in a variety of physical activities.
Trottier asked fifth-grade students in Jim Bazinet’s class for assistance with the kindergarten through third grade Olympic activities. The fifth-graders were trained in the rules and expectations of the games for the primary grades. They acted as coaches to the younger students and assistants to Trottier.
Trottier said this year’s games were a success, thanks in large part to the fifth-grade student volunteers.
“These students demonstrated an outstanding ability to follow directions and to work with the younger students. Thanks to their success, I look forward to continuing this fifth-grade program next year,” he said.
Bazinet’s students who took part were Jasmin Monteiro, Carlos Baez, Jessica Wessinger, Tim Crocker, Asha Osman, Warren Gagnon, Liban Barre, Alicia Beaudoin, Jesse Demayo, Bushra Ismail, Nasteho Issa, Kyle Gleason, Derek Larrabee, Ashlee Moore, Zachary Phelan, Dylan Plourde, Brandon Stone and Trevon Woodbury.
