WATERVILLE – Alice Mae (Collins) Taylor, 87, of Fairfield, died at Maine General Medical Center on Saturday, July 22, as a result of an auto accident suffered in Newfoundland last May.
She was born Dec. 8, 1918, at Moscow, the daughter of Fred and Jennie (Leighton) Collins. She was educated in schools in that area.
She was employed several years at the Quimby veneer mill in Bingham and, after moving to Fairfield, for many years at the Norrwock shoe shop in Norridgewock.
A devoted wife and helpmate, her sunny disposition endeared her to all who met her. One of her great joys was to please people and make them happy.
Her life was characterized by acts of thoughtfulness and service to others. She was an unsurpassed cook, homemaker, and noted candy maker who was quick to share with others. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. For many years she traveled and supported her husband in Masonic career and activities.
Survivors, besides her husband, Douglas, of more than 67 years, include their son, Fred E. Taylor and his wife, Eleanor, of Auburn; three grandsons, Michael, Robert and wife, Mary, Ellen and Jeffrey and his lady, Missey; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Nicholas Taylor; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Jessica, Paul and Craig Michaud, all of Auburn; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins throughout New England.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by four brothers, Blynn, Stanley, Orin and Charles Collins; and three sisters, Peal Cates, Roxie Mathieu and Gail Craig.
