Annual supper
NEW VINEYARD – The Porter Lake Association will hold the 37th annual bean-hole bean supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Strong Beach on Porter Lake. It will be held in the Forster Building in Strong in case of rain.
The dinner is $5 for adults; $2.50, children age 5 to 11; free, under 5. The menu includes bean-hole baked beans, franks, rolls and beverages and a variety of donated salads and desserts. Proceeds support activities beneficial to the lake, its users and its environment.
Strong Beach can be reached from Route 234 or from the Taylor Hill Road off Route 27 in New Vineyard.
Silent auction
RANGELEY – Ducks Unlimited will host a fundraising event at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at the clubhouse. There will be a silent auction, featuring more than 200 items, raffle prizes and special prizes for the women, men and children.

Ducks Unlimited conserves, restores and manages wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl.
Training slated
FARMINGTON – Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community is offering a six-session assertive communication training from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 16, 23 and 30, Sept. 6, 13 and 20, at the Farmington Center, 108 Perham St.
The interactive workshop will show participants how to communicate in an honest and expressive, but not pushy, assertive manner that can help them express themselves positively and respect others at the same time.

Health programs
JAY – Local health experts will present a series of six programs covering various aspects of health and how to live healthier and happier at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, corner of Oak Street and Route 4.
Topics will include: Aug. 8, “Wild Edible Plants,” Betty McConnachie; Aug. 15, “Hydrotherapy,” Betty McConnachie. A question and answer period will follow each session. For more information, call 645-3039.
Open house
STRONG – Aurora Grange 202 will hold an open house at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 28. A community service award will be presented and light refreshments will follow. Music will be presented by the SAD 58 band, directed by Bea Milewski.
Church to add on
FARMINGTON – Farmington Baptist Church will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, as the Mobile Baptist Builders will be there for a week to begin building the expansion. Seven years ago the Mobile Baptist Builders, along with some local help, built the present church.
Volunteers needed
TURNER – The SAD 52 Volunteer Program for Greene, Leeds and Turner is looking for volunteers to help in different areas of the district school setting for the 2006-07 school year.
Anyone with a special skill to share with students or to assist with chaperoning, screening programs, office work, creating bulletins or reading is asked to contact the volunteer coordinators after Aug. 29:

Adams reunion
WILTON – The 128th reunion of the descendants of Moses and Martha (Kinney) Adams was held July 15 in the reunion building at Kineowatha Park with about 20 present from Maine and a couple from Florida.
After a noon potluck meal, a short business meeting was held with the same slate of officers: president and treasurer, Everett Trask; vice president, Stanford Trask; and secretary, Marjorie Plant.
A silent auction provided funds for reunion expenses.
