ALLAGASH (AP) – The public library in this tiny northern Maine town has received a $1,500 donation from the New England Patriots that will go toward giving the library a face-lift.

The New England Patriots charitable foundation made the award in the name of longtime library supporter Faye Hafford, an 81-year-old resident who helped start the two-room library seven years ago.

Hafford was one of 20 recipients to get a New England Patriots Community MVP Award this year, and the only one from Maine. The money will go toward new paint, shelving and other things the library couldn’t previously afford, she said.

The library was in the news last winter when it came close to closing because of the high cost of fuel and an aging furnace.

The Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation responded by sending a check for $25,000 to buy a new furnace and heating fuel for the winter.
