AUBURN – Steven Dostie, shelter director with the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, has announced the recipient of the Sarah Agren Scholarship. Named for a late young volunteer of the humane society, the program offers a $500 scholarship to a deserving volunteer upon high school graduation.
This year’s scholarship was awarded to Aaron Boothby. Boothby, a volunteer at the humane society since 2004, is a graduate of Edward Little High School. This fall he will attend the University of Maine in Orono.
“Aaron has made a difference in the lives of the many animals who have come through our doors. We wish him all the best in his college career and we know his future is bright,” said Dostie.
The shelter provides a haven for approximately 3,800 animals a year. Primary support for the shelter comes from fundraising and residents.
The society is located at 3312 Hotel Road. Those interested in learning more about volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal should call 783-2311 or visit the Web site at www.gahumane.org.
