AUBURN – “Mame,” the Broadway musical hit, is not only one of the most successful musicals of the century, it is also a nonpareil in its cast of characters – it has no leading man. The play will be staged Aug. 11 to 20 by the Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre.
The musical revolves around the starring role of “Mame,” to be played by Pam Vailllancourt. Numerous men are in the play, such as Andreas Wyder as her nephew Patrick Dennis, age 10, and Joshua Harris as Patrick aged 19 and onward, and Roger Philippon as Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside, her briefly-appearing wooer and then husband.
Based on the novel by Patrick Dennis, the book is by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman.
Director David E. Lock is announcing the cast and crew as follows: Kathi Asquith as Vera, Mame’s sidekick and bosom buddy; Becky Poppke, Agnes Gootch, Patrick’s Nanny; Jeremy Gervais, Ito, the Japanese houseboy; Phil Vampatella, Dwight Babcock, lawyer; Ellen Peters, Sally Cato, Southern Belle; Andre Demers, Junior Babcock; Dave Handley, Lindsey Woolsey, Mame’s friend and lawyer; Dan Crawford and Mary-Atala Lessard, Mr. and Mrs. Upson; Carolyne Deblois, Gloria Upson; Sarah Andersen, Mother Burnside; Karen McArthur, Madame Branislowski; Maggie Barnard, Pegeen; Ethan Mondor, Peter; Zachary Hews, Gregor; and Christopher Sabo, stage manager.
The ensemble includes Deborah Blanchard, Kate Hartig, Maria Dumont, Crystal Packard, Raedelle Knight, Diane Wyder, Al Farrington, Donna Dunham, Alex Sirois and Alexz Wight.
Paul G. Caron is musical director, and Raymond M. Dumont is choreographer.
