NORWAY – Robert Linden Whittemore, 73, of Paris, passed away July 25 at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Skowhegan on Jan. 22, 1933, the son of Robert B. and Leona Pomerlow Whittemore. He graduated from Skowhegan High School and went to work in construction for Wyman and Simpson.
He worked most of his career running heavy equipment and became superintendent with that company. He also worked another 10 years with Bridge Corp. He retired in 1998.
Robert was active in the Gardiner Junior Chamber of Commerce (JCC’s) in the early years and was selected as the outstanding new member of the entire state of Maine and went on to compete in the national finals in Atlanta, Ga. He served as the Gardiner club president and was awarded a lifetime membership in JC International (Senatorship No. 8189) by the Gardiner chapter.
He was interested in carpenter work and landscaping. He also liked to travel and spend time on the computer. He enjoyed painting pictures. He married Shirley (Ward) on Nov. 27, 1981, and they resided in Paris. They also have a home in Zephyrhills, Fla. They have spent much of their time traveling to all parts of the United States.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Paris; two sons, Robert and wife, Cathy, of Vassalboro and Jeff and wife, Julie, of Springfield, Mass.; a daughter, Pamela Grant, and husband, Kevin, of Belgrade; two stepdaughters, Wanda Corbett of Mansfield, Mass., and Debra Maxim of Paris; two stepsons, Lawrence Ward of Rumford and Daniel and wife, Debora, of West Paris; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Ronald Whittemore of Skowhegan, Dale Flynn of Elkton, Md., and Neal Flynn of Buxton.
