AUGUSTA – Doris Ann Hersom, 75, of Highland Ave., Gardiner, passed away Saturday July 29, at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Turner on Jan 1, 1931, a daughter of John and Etta E. McCarthy Durgin.
Doris was employed in manufacturing jobs until her retirement due to a disability.
She loved to travel, having gone to Canada and Florida. She especially loved her trip to Hawaii.
She loved to sew and knit. She was an excellent cook, loved to throw parties, and to go out to eat with or just gather with her family. She kept a good home. She loved to attend sporting events and was a big Red Sox fan. She loved all her new babies in the family.
She is survived by her six children, Nancy Pottle and husband, David, of West Gardiner, Donna Harris and husband, Robert, of Farmingdale, Joan Bailey and husband, Everett, of Belmont, N.H., Leland Chateauvert and wife, Elaine, of Lewiston, Norm Hersom and wife, Siv Larsen, of Seattle, Wash., and Debra Bowie and husband, Ed, of Augusta; two sisters, Gladys Sawyer of Turner, and Helen Hewins of Greene; two brothers, Robert Durgin of Auburn, and John Durgin of North Turner; 14 grandchildren; David Pottle Jr., Daniel Pottle, Doreen Newcombe, Carolee Smith, R. Gentry Harris, Tim E. Harris, David Lyal, Tyson Bailey, Laura Paul, Matthew Chateauvert, Brian Chateauvert, Katherine Bowie, Abigail Bowie and Nicholas Bowie; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Carroll “Zeke” Chateauvert in 1968, and Calvin “Pee Wee” Hersom in 1991; two sisters, Maeville Dyer and Madeline Simard; and her brother, Richard Durgin.
