AUBURN – Shoppers with back-to-school lists will have to gaze wistfully at the new Kohl’s department store.
The latest addition to the area’s retail scene is still scheduled for an October opening. Kohl’s generally plans a collective grand opening for its new stores, and Auburn’s will open with others this fall, according to Julie Lando, spokeswoman.
The store has completed its hiring of full-time workers but is still interviewing for part-time help. About 100 jobs were projected for the store when it was announced last year.
A conditional occupancy permit was issued July 14 by the city’s Planning Department for the store. A final permit will be considered once all the interior work is completed to code.
Lando said the reasons behind the selection of Auburn for its fourth Maine store will be revealed by Kohl’s officials closer to its grand opening date.
