The youth were selected following an application and interview process and will serve a one-year term. The membership consists of seven returning members and five new members. Those appointed were: Allyson Beaucage, Sara Fabrizio, Jenni Golletti, Ray Goulet, Veronica Irish, Luke Jensen, Ashley Morgan, Hossain Naji, Kelin Sevit, Clarissa Smith, Tim Stretton and Danielle Taylor.

Rousseau noted, “Working with the youth council is a very rewarding aspect of my duties as a city councilor. Experiencing the creativity of these young people who are dedicated to making a difference within this community is truly inspiring.”

The mission of the youth council is to serve as an advisory council to the Lewiston City Council concerning community issues affecting youth. It serves as a liaison between the youth of the community and the city.

The council enables youths to work toward goals that empower all of the community’s youths and to undertake service projects that enhance the community. The youth council was adopted as a program by the Lewiston City Council in October of 2001, and its charter membership began their duties in July of 2002.

Co-advisers are Community Relations Coordinator Dottie Perham-Whittier and Director of Recreation and Parks Maggie Chisholm. For additional information on the youth council, interested parties may visit www.ci.lewiston.me.us/lyac.
