BANGOR – John Summa threw out a baserunner at the plate for the final out as Suburban of Cumberland eked out a 4-3 victory over Auburn Suburban in the semifinals of the Senior Little League State Tournament at Mansfield Stadium.

With runners on first and third with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, ASL tried to push across the tying run with a double steal, but Summa’s throw to the plate was in time to get Mike Muise. Summa also delivered at the plate, knocking home the winning run in the fifth inning with a single, and Rob Ryan had three hits, including a double.

Kyle Bussiere hit a sacrifice fly and added a double for ASL, scoring on Muise’s single in the seventh to make it a one-run game. Muise had two hits. Devon Flynn also scored a run.

ASL starting pitcher Corey LaRue pitched into the fifth inning, issuing three walks and allowing eight hits but pitching out of bases-loaded jams twice in the game. LaRue also had an RBI single. Summa struck out two and walked seven in a complete game effort, scattering five hits.

Suburban advanced to play Coastal at 7:30 p.m. in the championship game. Auburn Suburban finished the tournament with a 1-2 record.
