Two local seniors were awarded degrees on May 13 during commencement at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa.
Larissa Lyn Hine of Peru, daughter of William Hine and Cathy Hazelton, received a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish/Hispanic cultures with a secondary emphasis in biology. Hine received the Lilly Foundation Imagination Grant to travel to Nicaragua for five weeks to live and work with a family of potters in San Juan de Oriente.
Hine plans to travel to Guatemala for 10 days to interpret for a medical delegation, then volunteer for a year at Gould’s Farm. She is a 2002 graduate of Hebron Academy.
Sara Dawn Roux of Lewiston, daughter of Kenneth and Susan Roux, received a bachelor of science degree in psychology. Roux was named to the NFHCA National Academic Field Hockey Squad, which recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher.
She was also inducted into the Psi Chi Psychology Honor Society where she served as the 2005-06 vice president and she achieved the dean’s list. Roux will attend the Franklin Pierce College physical therapy program. She is a 2002 graduate of Lewiston High School.
