It is a proven fact that the only ones who show up at the town meetings are special interest groups. Ordinary, hard-working people just don’t want to be bothered on their days off.
That is why town taxes are so high. People are not there to vote “no” on ridiculous line items.
I know most folks are tired at the end of the week and have better things to do with their time off. They need to think of it this way: they will be better off financially and time-wise if they go to town meeting that one day of the year than having to get a part-time job along with a full-time job just to pay taxes.
An important vote will be coming up in November on the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, or TABOR.
Up until November, people will be hearing a lot of information and misinformation about TABOR. The special interest groups are trying to make this sensible proposal look drastic. It’s designed to control the growth of government and put taxpayers in control, not cut jobs, services or budgets.
Those of us who are concerned that we must not carry the nation’s heaviest tax burden are in favor of TABOR. For those who dread the thought that they can no longer dip their fingers into our wallets anytime they want, TABOR is a nightmare.
The opposition doesn’t seem to understand that families are suffering because government is spending too much money.
