LEWISTON – Leopold M. Valliere, 85, of 5 Hartley St., died Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Marshwood Health Care & Rehabilitation Center, where he resided for the past six years.
He was born in Biddeford, Jan. 3, 1921, a son of the late Ernest and Euchariste Pelletier Valliere. He graduated from St. Louis High School, Class of 1938, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Knights of Columbus Council 106, Lewiston, 4th Degree Wallace Assembly, American Legion Post 22, Disabled American Veterans and Lewiston Senior Citizens.
He was employed at H.P. Hood for 24 years as a route salesman and route foreman. He owned and operated the Dari Delite on Main Street in Lewiston for eight years and worked for the State of Maine Department of Human Services up until the time of his retirement in 1983.
He enjoyed reading and keeping up with current affairs. He also loved gardening and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Therese Drouin of Lewiston, whom he married April 13, 1942; three daughters, Pauline Bouchard and husband, Roland, of Lewiston, Elaine Ogrodnik of Gardiner and fiancée, Bob Billings, and Paula Valliere of Lewiston; five sons, Richard and wife, Suzanne, of Dover, N.H., Robert and wife, Pauline, of Lewiston, Michael and wife, Ann, of Lewiston, Ronald of Poland and Dennis of Oxford and fiancée, Barbara Struzinski; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three nieces.
He was predeceased by an infant son, Norman; and three sisters.
