LISBON – Property owners will see no increase in their tax bills this year following final action by the town council. The rate will be $24.25 per $1,000 valuation, the same as last year.
Tax bills are expected to be in the mail within a week. The first half of the bill is due Sept. 15 and the remaining, by March 15, 2007. Bills not paid within 30 days of the due date are charged 11 percent interest.
Accepted was a revised bid of $25,500 from Industrial Roofing Co. for installation of a new roof at the Teen Center. The latest bid is $6,000 more, but now includes insulation and a PVC roof, which has a better life, as recommended by the firm.
Crooker Construction was awarded the contract for paving the Sabattus River boat launch on its low bid of $21,000 by a vote of 5-2. Councilors Janet Henry and Layne Curtis were opposed. They favor awarding the contract to the higher local bidder, Bulick Construction. Landscaping was awarded to Davis Landscaping of Lisbon on its bid of $10,000. The remaining site work will be done in-house, Town Manager Curtis Lunt said. A $20,000 grant accepted from the Maine Department of Conservation will go towards the $43,000 project.
Councilors signed an order designating Miller Road, Ferry Road between Miller and Breton roads, and Breton and Wagg roads, mostly gravel ways, as roads where ATVs may be operated at speeds not to exceed 10 miles per hour.
