AUBURN – Saturday, Sept. 9, will be a sign-up day for potential contestants in the Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant to be held at Central Maine Community College.

The pageant is looking for single and never-married women who are high school graduates, age 17 to 24, United States citizens and residents, full-time students or full-time employees in the state.

Contestants will be asked to provide a short talent presentation and will participate in a mock interview. Mentors will be available to all contestants to help guide contestants through the pageant process.

The Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant is the official state preliminary to Miss America. Developed by the Miss America Organization, the Miss America Program provides professional and personal opportunities to young women and helps promote a voice in politics, culture and the community.

The Miss America Organization, along with its state and local organizations, makes available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance each year.

The Miss Maine Program is a nonprofit volunteer-based program. It is looking for volunteers in the community to prepare, mentor and support local contestants.
