SOUTH PARIS – Pauline H. “Polly” Smith, 92, of East Bethel Road, Bethel, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the Market Square Health Care Center.

She was born in East Bethel, on June 30, 1914, a daughter of Dana and Evelyn (Bartlett) Harrington, and had attended the East Bethel School.

Pauline was a homemaker in her early years of marriage and later worked at Ecko Tibbetts, in Locke Mills, for 20 years. Polly was an active member of Tops and the Bethel Citizens Group.

She was married in Bethel, on Aug. 20, 1937, to the late Charles Smith. She and Charles spent 15 happy years in retirement together, spending a lot of time visiting friends and relatives at the family cottage in Freeport.

Survivors include a son, Gary Smith and companion, Cynthia Hamlin, of Freeport; a daughter, Donna Bernard, and husband, Jim, of Andover; a foster son, Robert Dorey and wife, Shirley, of Andover; six grandchildren, Julie Martin, Jackie Thibeau, Jeri Manson, Janel Jeselskis, Michael and Andrea Smith; two step-grandchildren, Lisa Saxton and Michele Sanzari; five great-grandchildren, Katie and Tyler Thurston, Nichole and Megan Manson and Chloe Smith; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Michael and Nicholas Sanzari; a sister, Lillian Moore of South Paris, who visited her weekly; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Iva Coolidge, Freda Edmunds, Nellie Olson; and a brother, Chester Harrington.
